What is AdBlue?

AdBlue is a high-purity urea solution used in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems in diesel engines to reduce harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. It’s composed of 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionized water and is injected into the exhaust system before the catalytic converter. When heated in the exhaust, AdBlue® breaks down into ammonia, which reacts with NOx gases, converting them into harmless nitrogen and water vapor.

AdBlue® is commonly used in modern diesel vehicles, including trucks, buses, and cars, to meet strict emission standards such as Euro 6 in Europe. It’s stored in a separate tank in the vehicle and needs to be refilled periodically, depending on usage. It’s non-toxic and biodegradable but must be handled carefully to avoid contamination.
